things I love about living here…

  • The guy who called me “doll” when he asked me for directions today
  • That last night’s Sopranos episode was filmed at the ice-cream place down the street
  • Men wearing gold jewelry with diamonds — cracks me up
  • Good Italian food on every corner
  • Ikea!
  • Spring!! Back home, spring isn’t usually this green — it’s more dry and stingy. We don’t have the same flowering trees and tulips everywhere. Here it is over the top, quite a show, verdant even — with cherry trees and dogwoods and azaleas, like nature has one last show to give and so it is putting everything it has into this one…

I love spring. It is my favorite season. The cherry blossom trees are beautiful. I always smile when I pass one by. I just wish the flowers didn’t fall off so fast. Enjoy, because unfortunately it doesn’t last long.

Very true. So quickly it seems to be fading….

We/ve been in our house going on 4 years. Our yard was like a forest when we got here. We’ve cut down over twenty trees and last year we had our front yard done over with new steps and retainer wall. My gardener also planted all kinds of perennial plants. Bambi and all his friends had begun to feast on my budding tulips late in the winter and I was really afraid that we wouldn’t have any blossoming flowers this year. But lo and behold, pratically all my tulips suvived the “feast” and my yard is absolutely gorgeous. My landscaper did the “spring cleanup” Monday and it’s just fabulous. I came home today for lunch and had to MAKE myself go in the house (I was so busy taking in the view). I cut some tulips and brought them inside and made a bouquet - they are so beautiful. I LOVE FLOWERS!

The “Liquid Fence” I wrote about on my blog page really works. Two neighbors stopped me today to tell me how beautiful the yard looks. One netghbor said, “It’s been a long time since we’ve seen tulips arpund here because they usually don’t survive the deer.” That made me feel real good, since that neighbor has also been a resident for almost 30 years. I took that as a huge compliment.

Despite the fact that I probably shouldn’t have, I couldn’t resist going to COSTCO and buying over $100.00 worth of “more stuff” for the yard. I even got a little bronze boy with a soccer ball to sit on the lawn. I eventually want to also get a bench.

Oh God! There’s always something to buy - either something you need to buy or something you just want. I’ve got to get more disciplined about this, though.
Anyway, I took pix of my yard. I will share as soon as I get them developed. It’s funny, now, I look forward to it raining so my flowers can get their drink on and save us some money on the water bill (even though the water bill is the cheapest bill we have.. HAHAHA!
    Enjoy your week
Got to pick my husband up from the train station - he just called; don’t have time to proofread.
