total immersion

The house is a mess, my working out has gone out the window, and I eat only when I remember except when I get home at night and then I snack until I fall asleep. The intensive class has begun and I am living, breathing, even dreaming it — last night I was answering emails in my sleep and responding to student questions about the syllabus. It’s going well so far, but I know I won’t be blogging, or writing, or doing much of anything else until the class is through. With 23 students and 23 papers each time they turn them in and wanting to, like everytime I teach, put heart and soul into it, I won’t peek my head up again until after class is over at the end of the month. Then we take our summer vacation over the long weekend and fall begins. Yay fall, I am definitely looking forward to it!

Back into psycholinguistics and sociolinguistics and the meanings of literacy, all of which are incredibly interesting by the way…

    Dr. C-

Your post made me think of a book I recently read/heard…
Have you read Frank McCourt’s Teacher Man? I was on the road for quite a bit this previous week… I listened to the audiobook version of the YA book BE MORE CHILL; it has definite connections to FEED– might be another suggestion… I also started listening to McCourt’s book—the audiobook version is wonderful. At first, I thought the book was be cheesy, inspirational junk… but it is extremely entertaining [and a "little" inspirational, I suppose]. He talks about grading piles and piles of papers, only to have more piles handed in after the last graded ones have been handed back. He talks about “discliplining” a class by eating one student’s sandwich. He talks about how students will do anything to get away from the almighty lesson at hand… You might enjoy it:)

My father and others have also recommended it. I think either it is on my Amazon wish list or I have intentions of putting it there (or even creating a wish list? Not sure). Will definitely check it out, tho..
